The reform policies launched in Vietnam, translated as ‘restoration,’ brought profound changes to the country - shifting it from the failures of a planned economy adopted after unification of the country in 1975 to a market economy open to private business.
Normalised relations with the USA in 1995 opened the way for a free trade agreement in 2001 and accession to the WTO in 2007.
